Minaturformat

I must be honest that I have not yet shot on Miniature Format so far, because of lacking film holder and development spool (state 10/2024).
Pros of Miniature Format Photography compared to 35 mm (135 Film)
  • Film Cost:
Minature format films (when taking 16mm cine film) are less expensive than their 35mm counterparts. This includes the processing.
  • Film Grain:
Using the huge film grain as stylistic device is the "one trick pony" of this film format.
Cons of Miniature Format Photography compared to 35 mm (135 Film)
  • Lower Resolution:
The smaller film of miniature format cameras limits the resolution of the images a lot.
  • Size and Portability:
Miniature format cameras are often smaller and lighter than 35mm cameras.
  • Fewer Frames Shots per Film:
Miniature format film generally allows fewer exposures per roll compared to 35mm film, resulting in fewer shots before needing to reload film. This limitation might affect certain shooting styles or projects.
  • Limited Availability:
Compared to 35mm film, there is a verylimited selection of film stocks available for miniature format cameras.

My Conclusion(s)
  • 'Unique' Aesthetic:
Using the huge film grain as stylistic device is the "one trick pony" of this film format. But to be honest with myself, using a similar lens local length and croping a minature from 35mm film could do same thing.
